Christopher J. Gallagher was born in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. He is a self-taught linguist and is fluent in Spanish, French, and German. He is also conversant in Russian, Japanese, Italian, and Portuguese. He was voted Teacher of the Year in the Anesthesia Department at Duke University.
