In the early morning shadows, Abigail finds Isaac and a runaway slave named Cora hiding in a dark corner of her barn. Though shocked at this discovery, Abigail is soon drawn into her family's closely guarded secret—their farm is a safe haven for runaway slaves. The farm may not be a safe place for long, however, as Isaac and Cora have barely escaped with their lives. And they are still being pursued.

As the slave catcher Thomas Blake gets closer and the situation becomes more and more perilous, a decision is made. Abigail must brave the night and the danger to take Cora to her next destination before morning. In a race against the approaching dawn and the ruthless Thomas Blake, Abigail and Cora set out together on a dangerous midnight journey toward freedom.
