• The Bucktails' Shenandoah March

Something snapped in Bucky Culp’s brain when his commanding officer and his best friend were both captured at the Battle of Harrisonburg. Although he risked being shot for a spy, he shed his uniform and reverted to his Indian ways to successfully infiltrate the Rebels’ camp. Slithering like a venomous timber rattler to the tent where his comrades were being held, Bucky would have successfully freed Lieutenant Colonel Kane and Jimmy Jewett if not for the actions of a traitorous villain who had deserted from his very own regiment!

Bucky Culp, Jimmy Jewett, and their closely knit squad thought they were seasoned veterans until they had to endure the rigors of the Shenandoah Valley Campaign. The campaign was fought using Thomas Kane’s newly developed tactic of being “foot cavalry.” The squad’s true mettle was tested by grueling forced marches, the death of a beloved comrade, and the bitter defeats that decimated the ranks of the proud Bucktail Regiment.

“The Bucktails' Shenandoah March continues to chronicle the lives of young Civil War soldiers through the tumultuous Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1862. Robertson and Rimer again successfully create entertaining fiction while maintaining historical accuracy. This is the kind of work that will lead our younger generation to appreciate the sacrifices of the Civil War and create a desire to continue to preserve our history as they grow and mature. Bravo!”

Richard G. Adams, Captain, Company B, 1st PA Rifles Reenactment Group & Bucktail Historian.
