• 16th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry: Sergeant William H. Relyea

Edited by high school students under the direction of John Michael Priest, 16th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry: Sergeant William H. Relyea will offer the reader a detailed firsthand look into the career of an average Federal regiment. Sergeant Relyea served with the regiment from its creation in 1862 through its muster-out in 1865. During that time, he saw combat at Antietam, Suffolk, and in the backwaters of North Carolina.  Although he did not participate in the Battle of Plymouth, he devoted a great deal of time to preserving eyewitness accounts of that fateful action of April 20, 1864. In between vivid descriptions of actions and skirmishes, he meticulously recounted the daily routines of camp life.
